The Illinois State Board of Education has adopted new Math and English Language Arts standards for K‐12 education known as the New Illinois State Learning

Goal 11
Making the connection between the many diciplines in science is important. Understanding the functions of living creatures in biology, is also dependent upon understanding of chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Science is the foundation of the learning process for all other subjects.

Science can also be studied independently or in groups. As an individual, one may contribute unique insight into solving a problem, or planning a different approach to the process of scientific inquiry. Working in groups allows for different perspectives to be expressed in a cordial, and collaborative effort in order to solve the problem, or interpret new ways of accomplishing specific goals or tasks. Students should be able to perform physical science investigations. When working in groups, science inquiry involving multiple tasks can be accomplished much more efficiently.
